Serbian Film is definitely a legit disturbing film from the first frame to the last and The Girl Next Door will just make you wanna puke and cry at the same time. But…

Some notably absent entries:

1. Philosophy of a Knife – a 4hr (4 hours!) film that chronicles in graphic detail every torturous human experiment conducted by Japan’s Unit 731 during World War 2, including vivisection of pregnant women and gassing of children. Black and white (mostly). If you can make it through this, you can make it through anything.
2. The Men Behind the Sun – See above. Another insane depiction of Unit 731’s atrocities. This time in color!
3. August Underground: Mordum – Simulated snuff film that takes it to the limit. Any movie (if you can call them that) from August Underground will make a normal person feel absolutely filthy.
4. Guinea Pig: Flowers of Flesh – Another simulated snuff film from Japan that is like what the movie 8MM is based on. Just creepy classical music and a samurai guy slowly dismembering a woman. No plot, no dialogue, no meaning…just gore.

Notable mentions:
* Salo – A group of rich men bring a large group of teens to a remote mansion to rape and torture them. A slow-burn that descends into complete depravity.
* The House That Jack Built – Lars von Trier hits his stride in this film with a truly disturbing portrait of a serial killer.

And finally, this one takes the title as most disturbing and uncomfortable thing I have ever seen:
* Irréversible – Gasper Noe’s graphic and intense revenge movie famous for it’s brutal extended rape scene. That scene alone is harder to watch than almost anything else ever committed to film.

Wood’s “Maniac” is a remake, btw. Watch the 70’s original before.

Haven’t seen it and don’t plan to any time soon. Sometimes just a film’s reputation is enough to keep you from watching it even once. Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom is another one of those for me. Transcendent torture porn is still not something I wanna see!

I saw it when it came out. the original, which is in my native language. The Exorcist is on top of most of the lists of the scariest movies ever, for a reason. the devils grimace that appears for split seconds before falling asleep… and other scenes haunted me for a long time. but the kids nowadays are different, because of the internet. they get used to things, that a normal person from 50 years ago has never seen in his entire life. a nephew of mine told me when he was 12, the exorcist is boring….. clockwork orange isn’t disturbing in my opinion. it is a angry movie, about the arrogance of youth induced by their lack of suffering and the resulting boredom. they haven’t suffered yet in their life yet, which results in doing horrible things to feel special. but they change their attitude immediately, when they have to suffer for the 1st time in their life themselves. Kubrick was a genius. these things are sadly happening in real life again and again until this day. such as the Dayton Christmas murder spree in 1998 just to name 1 example of countless. some of them have sentenced to death and start to realize what they have done, as soon as they have to suffer and would have never done that. with that experience of being sentenced to prisn for life or death, when it was too late. this is exactly what clockwork orange is about. (I dislike Shining by the way). his greatest and most disturbing movie is Eyes wide shut. an eye opening movie, perhaps the most disturbing ever. I wish I could see that movie again for the very first time. most of the people have unique experiences from that movie. no other movie has an effect like this. Kubrick had an IQ of 200. he knew what he was doing. and he surprisingly was killed after he presented his final cut of Exes wide shit cut to the producers, right before it was released. sorry, he might have killed, but definitely died…. after he died they made a new cut, 20 minutes shorter (!) and then they released it. it is about the Illuminati. I refuse to watch movies which are tasteless and poor. such as Salo or Cannibal holocaust and Serbian crap. and because you have mentioned killing animals: it is disgusting and people should go in jail if they do that for entertainment.
