It is one of the most abysmal, dreadful, and relentlessly dull cinematic experiences that I have ever had while watching a film. At least Superman and the Quest for Peace is so bad that it becomes funny and Superman Returns told an actual Superman Story by treating him as a person and not as a God (Admittedly the execution was really lacking but hey it was something). I’ll freely agree that Superman III is worse, but even that movie has a few moments and Christopher Reeve. Man of Steel has never ending pseudo pretentious dialogue, a third act action scene that goes on for days, some of the most painfully blunt and obvious direction and visual symbolism (Do you get it?! Superman is Jesus!), and what could quite possibly be the most boring (Seriously the script just neuters Henry Cavil), dumbest (hey superman how about you use your super speed and strength and throw your ship into Zod’s ship instead of relying on weak humans to do it), and unlikable (He killed a bunch of unborn Kryptonian Fetuses) version of Superman in history. It’s kind of funny the movie worked so hard to dey all the expectations of Superman’s Character flaws, but all Zack Snyder did was create a Superman who was defined by all those flaws. The only good things are Hans Zimmer’s Score and Michael Shannon’s Zod, aside from that the rest is garbage.

Reeve’s Superman doesn’t play like that. I really wish he had kept the scene that showed them getting arrested.

It has to be a bit goofy because is a goofy concept: Human-like Spaceman from Crystal City fueled by mumbo jumbo science and crazy evil men to fight him off. Just because Superman became a pop culture icon (Therefore analogue to a Myth) some people seem to think he’s untouchable and can’t be fooled around with.
Obs: Superman III is very funny.

Almost like 2 different movies in one. It’s great until the moment he hits Metropolis as Clark Kent. Mythic, grand. Then it quickly devolves into a stupid camp movie that doesn’t recognize it’s being camp. Ned Beatty’s performance as the dumb Otis is embarrassing. Gene Hackman is horribly cast as Lex (Miss TESSMACHER!!!!), Valerie Perrine? Please. Plus the foolish walk one by Rex Reed, Warner’s hack Larry Hagman? I have to give the nod to MAN OF STEEL.
