Only film I’ve seen on this list is “Vesper” and I enjoyed it, garderner that I am.

That rule has its limits i think… I mean if we all applied it to every movie no one would have ever seen 2001

Damn… that’s a shame. I was looking forward to see that one.

And I agree, if a movie doesn’t seem to have anything interesting to say or show in the first quarter or so, then you might as well give up on it. There’s no point on forcing yourself into finishing a movie. To prove what?

Yeap. I just saw The block island sound, and it’s definitely a nerve wracking experience about grief, guilt and an interesting exercise about how a trauma can lead to a horrifying consequences. I like the analogy of the fish “studies” when it comes to the human behavior.

It’s a perfect blend of sci-fi, thriller and drama.

I gave Vesper 49 minutes before bailing. Your basic dystopian world ruined by evil corporations and a two-tiered class system of Haves/Have Nots. Add mopey mumbling waif with a robot sidekick. I used the Ebert 15 minute rule: If you don’t care about the main characters in 15 minutes walk away.

I don’t even know if any of these were even on my radar (although admittedly not many are the type I’d seek out).
Slash/Back sounds very appealing

Although I read some positive stuff about Vesper and a few others

If anyone wants to jump in with a few recommendations from this list, that’ll be great

A fun premise that is executed well and it’s only 70 minutes long. The credits also include how everything was made, which was interesting to watch. Brian and Charles was one that unfortunately didn’t work for me. Certain character choices and behaviours muddied it up. It has some nice moments but overall, should’ve remained as a short film.

I really liked it. Yeah, it’s slow, but I’m fine with slow as long as the time’s being well spent. And while I love me some gruesome violence, I also appreciate movies that can be scary af with little-to-no blood. So, yeah, I definitely recommend this one.
