Not only the standout horror movie of the year but one of the better movie s of the year in general. But yeah Nope is probably just about tied with it. Absolutely loved both of those.
Other thing I agreed with was Smile being least favorite. It seems weird for it to be on any kind of “best” list, though, especially if M3gan has been excluded. Or maybe that was 2023. Don’t care enough to find out.

I agree with your observation of the increasingly amorphous, broad categorization that is the modern conception of “horror” filmmaking. Almost any film with any sort of mildly creepy vibe or grisly character deaths now falls under the horror genre. That trend is not limited to this site, for the record.
