Well, actually he never stopped working. He just had trouble getting funding for his films though he’s made a bunch of shorts in the 2000s and 2010s including some stuff for anthology films. He also served as a member of the jury at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. His long gap is similar to what happened to Terrence Malick between Days of Heaven and The Thin Red Line though I’m just glad both directors are active right now.
