You could attribute that to the fact that he also puts in a lot of effort for each role he takes on. According to Justin Kurzel he read the script for Macbeth over 200 times before the first read through and he read the Steve Jobs so many times he memorised the script.

I can accept everything about this movie but acting was so awful. Especially the lead actress Maika Monroe.

It was a year of great performances and a lot of them were overlooked. I’d add the following for further consideration:

-Jack O’Connell, as Private Gary Hook, ‘71
-Carey Mulligan, as Bathsheba Everdene, Far from the Madding Crowd
-Paul Dano & John Cusack, as Brian Wilson, Love & Mercy
-Joaquin Phoenix, as Abe, Irrational Man
-Ben Mendelsohn, as Curtis, Mississippi Grind
-Jason Segel, as David Foster Wallace, The End of the Tour
-Qi Shu, as Nie Yinniang, The Assassin
-Jesuthasan Antonythasan, as Dheepan, Dheepan
-Marion Cotillard, as Lady Macbeth, Macbeth
