Whenever someone mentions God of Gamblers, I keep thinking of a few internet memes as it played into the events of the 2014 FIFA World Cup as it related to that misguided anti-gambling ad from Singapore. It had a kid named Andy being sad because his dad bet all of their savings on Germany. It then plays sad music but… someone then added the line… “Andy, I’m home” and the music from that film appears with Chow-Yun Fat looking like THE MAN while eating chocolate. There’s another of Fat walking into the gambling room looking cool as he’s about to place his bet for Brazil vs. Germany in the semi-finals.

Man, those anti-gambling ads from Singapore have not aged well. I was like “oh come on Andy! Stop your bitching! Your dad is doing right. He’s a genius. He’s the best. With all of that money, you won’t have to go to college, you won’t have to work. You won’t have to do shit! Just sit back and relax and stop your bitching!”
