I agree, The Straight Story is often overlooked, sandwiched as it is between Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive…yet it’s Lynch at the top of his game, he was on a roll at the time, having refined and focused his vision during the creation of the first Twin Peaks television series (Eraserhead, Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart were cool, yes, but just steppingstones toward the real deal).
