Yet I thought the move was visually excellent but sucked massively. Two plus hours to do THAT? The whole thing just seemed like a preamble to the second half.

Some purists will be critical of what is left out but given the limitations of bringing such a huge novel to the screen it’s impressive what he was able to do.

His movies are visually stunning, but his characters seem like they are watching the film rather than taking part in it. Dune and Blade Runner both suffered from this. The characters all seem like they are sleepwalking.

As flawed as Lynch’s Dune was, at least the characters seem to be taking part.

In addition, I wished he had found a story arc that he could have completed in the film, rather than treating it as a television series.

Dune is as overrated as Blade Runner 2049.
