I always write a short review after watching a film…"low budget, awful acting, bad dancing, forgettable music, terrible wardrobe, repeated rape scenes BUT some of the cinematography is stunning and there are some cool, trippy psychedelic visuals…best actor-> the empire state building"

I have a ZARDOZ t-shirt that attracts attention from the right people! Weldon's books are part of my "bibles" collection. Glad you're out there, Sid. and always remember "The Penis is evil! The Penis shoots Seeds, and makes new Life to poison the Earth with a plague of men, as once it was. But the Gun shoots Death and purifies the Earth of the filth of Brutals. Go forth, and kill! Zardoz has spoken." Jesus Louisus!

THANK YOU for putting Zardoz up! That film gets a major bum rap for some reason (maybe cuz it's obtuse as all heck?), but I love it. I even wrote a paper on it in college! Layered with meaning, I tell ya!
Also, Ninth Config! Another solid classic!
If anyone wants to go deeper, look into Michael Weldon's TWO massive books under the Psychotronic title. Those are a never ending parade of bizarre and cheap.
Oddly, no one has thrown any John Waters up here! Check out Female Trouble, Pink Flamingos and Desperate Living before working your way up to his "serious" Hollywood films (Serial Mom, Hairspray, Cry Baby, etc), which are also excellent.
So many bizarre and weirdly great films out there… I think we're all barely scratching the surface…

There’s a few here I need to check out, thanks! Love seeing On the Silver Globe mentioned, what a film. Absolute tragedy we don’t have a completed version >.>

Freakin’ love Gummo. The whole thing just feels so grimey, it’s almost like you can smell the film. Not everyone’s taste but no can can fault it for not being original

I tip my hat to you, Dr. Lyndon. I prefer your list especially because you included three of my faves so I had to come up w/ others to replace…here's mine (tried hard to keep it to 10 and not go over board w/ horror and anime)

A PAGE OF MADNESS (Teinosuke Kinugasa, 1926…friend of mine, knowing my penchant for silent films, recently turned me onto this…MAGNIFICENT)
ZARDOZ (John Boorman, 1977…weirdly wonderful)
ON THE SILVER GLOBE (Andrzej Zulawski, 1988…masterpiece)
TETSUO: The Iron Man (Shin'ya Tsukamoto, 1989…his entire oeuvre is worth checking out)
GOZU (Takashi Miike, 2003…another, his entire oeuvre is worth checking out)
TIDELAND (Terry Gilliam, 2005…not all, but most of his films are bizarre and surreal, but this particular one is also DISTURBING)
THE FALL (Tarsem Singh, 2006…visually stunning to boot)
BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW (Panos Cosmatos, 2010…and if you haven't seen MANDY, shame on you)
VANISHING WAVES (Kristina Buozyte, 2012…heavy sigh and a smile)
STRAWBERRY MANSIONS (Kentucker Audley, Albert Birney, 2019…future cult classic)
honorable mentions:
THE NINTH CONFIGURATION (William Peter Blatty, 1980…for the location, backstory about the script, and Stacy Keach)
TWIN FALLS IDAHO (Michael Polish, 1999…conjoined twins…need I say more?)

p.s. Alejandro Jodorowsky…his entire oeuvre is essential to check out
p.p.s. my friend keeps telling me I have to watch GUMMO…
