In reply to Sid Dithers. He has a lot of masterpieces. Knife in the Water, Repulsion, Rosemary's Baby, Chinatown, The Tenant, Tess. I don't think Frantic is anyway near their level.

Well, but if you want to watch a movie about somebody's wife going missing in Paris, it beats all hell out of Targets … Polanski's best is a high standard, but I've found Frantic pretty engaging over multiple viewings … Whereas, although I'm glad I've finally seen Targets now on this recco; it truly is a disappointing third act for Penn and Hackman, especially after the endlessly brilliant Night Moves, which I've also just revisited … Still a great tribute to Hackman though — but something about Targets just never adds up or makes sense in any satisfying kind of a way

In reply to Noel Lysen. The average Marvel viewer would never give these films a chance. Attention spans have become far too short. They don't want to be challenged. They want to be spoonfed plotpoints right up to a predictable conclusion, with plenty of special effects. These trends are always cyclical though. Their will be a time for real films again, it just ain't now.

Of course these are recognizable films among cinephiles, but I would contend that the average Marvel movie viewer wouldn’t have a clue about them either. I think it’s a great list. I haven’t seen several of these either, and I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s having watched probably at least 500 films from that era.

Pretty sure anyone that has had cable over the last 50 years has seen these movies, probably multiple times, almost none can be considered a classic. This site really needs to move past the “movies I haven’t seen” once and for all, you have beaten the subject to the ground.
