Manny’s entire piece is a joke. He starts the introduction with a quote from De Havilland; “I would like respect for difficult work well done,” which neatly sums up my points.
Give up writing, Manny, your syntax and word choices are awful, you’re just a stooge.

If you think that I or other film lovers believe for one minute that Manny omitted Gone with the Wind from his list because “so much has been said about it,” you’re wrong. It simply makes no sense at all. There are no lists on Taste of Cinema that dismiss films on such absurd grounds. Manny is just a cowardly conformist.

okaaaaay…this seems like a personal meltdown rather than criticism. No one said cancel, or erase from memory. What was said was “So much has been said about Gone with The Wind and her classic portrayal of Melanie Wilkes through the years so that title will not be on this list.” Which makes perfect sense.

Don’t be ignorant.
There are thousands of cineastes being born every day who don’t know the first thing about film history. You’re insane if you think that you and your buddy will be able to cancel Gone with the Wind from our collective memories. I would have had more respect for Manny if he’d had the balls to put Gone with the Wind in its proper position on his list and then explained himself briefly rather than dismissing the movie outright. He thought he could get away with it but got caught instead. You just try writing an article about Orson Welles without saying anything about Citizen Kane, ha, or make a Stanley Kubrick list without mentioning 2001: A Space Odyssey. As “film critics” you and Manny are frauds, your revisionist BS will never fly.
What a waste, what a waste.

Yes. As a film critic writing a short listicle on Orson Wells I would not include an analysis of Citizen Kane but only a nod, as the author did here for ODH. Citizen Kane and Gone with the Wind have have massive texts of analysis, and so a short piece about the most memorable but perhaps lesser-known exemplary roles does not need anything beyond an acknowledgment. We already know De Havilland was in GWTW and how important her acting was to that role. I learned about other great roles, or learned “oh, that was her in that, I didn’t notice at the time.” Personally, I loved the tribute written here, and I’ve added some new and rewatches to my queue.

Really good choices here and I understand not including GWTW, but where would you rank that performance?

Her performance in “Murder is Easy” (TV movie) is also great.

Would you dismiss Citizen Kane on an Orson Welles list because so much has been said about it over the years? What are you really saying? Are you serious? Do you think you can wipe Gone with the Wind from our memories by not including it on your list? And then you offer the weak excuse that you're doing it because "so much has been said about it?" As a writer, you are a fraud. It's clear that you have no understanding of history or art. And your grammar and composition "skills" are awful. I hope others will read your piece and see what you are doing.]]> The writer of this piece is a coward.

“So much has been said about Gone with the Wind through the years so that title will not be on this list. Instead let’s take a nostalgic look at de Havilland’s *other* movies…”
