Yes. (Gilroy and his two brothers are great collaborators…producing, writing and directing some cool films.)

[I just went to look at my conversation with Hunter again, it was quite lengthy (not the one about Joseph Gordon-Levitt) but couldn’t find any of the two exchanges, maybe I’m doing something wrong.]

I’m so self conscious about my English. Yesterday I was trying to have a conversation about The Dark Knight Rises with someone named Hunter and he couldn’t even understand the gist of my point which was that I was in agreement with him. I still need to improve my skills.

I’ve been reading some of your work for a while now Kosta and I appreciate your thoughts and insights.
There is nothing wrong with immigrants or students like me (or you?) using this site as a supplementary tool for improving our English but I have been reading up on ESL and its various offshoots and am very curious about their programs which only teach the most rudimentary language skills, nothing useful about proper syntax or expressing one’s knowledge in an intelligent manner. Why? Let’s hope that they are not taking advantage of their students, only educating them about English to a certain point but not enough to where they can think properly for themselves. That would explain Manuel Caneri’s ridiculous decision over on the Olivia de Havilland list to omit Gone With the Wind from his piece about her movies which no one with a well-rounded education in art, literature and history would ever think of doing. He’s clearly parroting ideas he has heard in passing without studying up on them for himself because if he was intelligent and had some balls he would have put Gone With the Wind somewhere in the top three and then articulately explained why he thought it was offensive or whatever. I would have respected him and his thoughts if that had been the case but to cancel Gone With the Wind with only a cursory comment is a disservice to others, immigrants or not, who enjoy learning about movies through the discussions on Taste of Cinema. A novice reading Caneri’s piece would never know what they were missing and film history would suffer as a result.
None of the people in my community here in the Memphis area are at all familiar with the ESL programs but I want to look into them further to ensure that students or immigrants are not being intellectually neutered by the process.
Thanks again, Kosta, and keep up the good work.

[I do not want to make ESL an issue on Taste of Cinema, I only learned about it in this discussion and will refrain from further commentary unless addressed. I already have a small group of friends who I have met on this site and I enjoy talking with them about movies which is our sole reason for being here. ]

Trying to read the lists I get distracted by the jumbled syntax especially since I’m always trying to improve my own English, of which I’m very self conscious. I’m getting the impression that many people in these discussions don’t even read the list notes, the list is just a jumping off point for conversations (?) .
I’m just unfamiliar with a lot of this, I’m not a snob, I primarily enjoy the thoughts and ideas shared in the comment section. I’ve never participated in these but my husband suggested it because I drive him crazy with art related talk.
