This film led viewers on a pathway of twists and turns…but the revelation toward the end was enough to render me wide eyed and speechless. A genius mind came up with the ending…

William Hjortsberg’s noir thriller Falling Angel (set in New York in 1959) was ABSOLUTELY butchered in the movie Angel Heart.

Besides the title change—which no one can explain to this day–the film noir aspect is MUCH better suited to New York than New Orleans. I’m sorry, but I DIDN’T care for the change of locations. And the noir style, which was critical to the plot, was LOST in the movie.

Finally, the ending of the film is an absolute TRAVESTY. Falling Angel invents a truly original type of story–a spectacular literary achievement–by having a devilishly original ending.

Nevertheless, in the film, the director couldn’t resist adding a surprise twist (on top of the plot twist disclosing that Harry is the killer) by adding a character not even in the book–and then having the kid’s eyes turn yellow (suggesting that he is also a minion or the offspring of Satan) at the end! Get it? It’s a twist, on top of a twist!

Only Hollywood could screw up such a beautifully simple story, i.e., once upon a time, the devil hired a private detective.

Calling his list ancient highlights your extremely naive viewpoint.
I, of course, don’t agree with all the choices and I think even some older movies were missed, but thank goodness I’ve never felt the need to react to an internet article in the ways you have.
You are not a pleasant person ,,, maybe seek some help & stop being so rude.

((Btw, the title is 25 great psychological thrillers worth your time… NOT the 25 greatest, so chill out))

It’s for the best.

Then, nobody mentioned the fantastic F.F. Coppola’s The Conversation with Gene Hackman as the lead, and backed by great John Cazale…

I think there’s very little about Mulholland Drive that’s mainstream.

I find it really hard to watch Jimmy Stewart treat every woman he sees like she’s garbage if she doesn’t fit his fantasy
