Then reports of problems on the set of FF got him fired from star wars, FF flopped real hard and his career is almost definitely over.

Often commercial flops not too bad. Take The Village and Showgirls, the best movies of Shyamalan/Verhoeven. They may have flopped in the box office (not sure they did though), but they earned the directors a lot of respect from the more serious fans.

For martin Scorsese, i will said rather than flops, his film really good but not something that appealing to wider audiences. While Verhoeven better in europe cinema.
No hope about shyamalan and schumacer though shyamalan latest film quite good..

I’m glad Heaven’s Gate is at least getting some re-evaluation and hopefully films like The Sicilian (in its 146-minute cut) and Year of the Dragon get some love as well. Another filmmaker who should be on the list is William Friedkin. He scored major hits with The French Connection and The Exorcist but then made a major flop in Sorcerer though he has made a comeback in recent years with Killer Joe while Sorcerer is fortunately getting some re-evaluation as well.
